The wonderful thing about button boxes, in my experience, is that they seldom contain just buttons. The button boxes of my female relatives have contained, odd bits of jewellery, old school badges, saved baby teeth,coins from foreign holidays...there's a whole new Blog post!

ReplyDeleteButtons are a weakness of mine.....glass and mother of pearl in particular. I use them in costuming and vintage repair. It's so hard to part with them!! They are wonderful mind-soothing tools.
ReplyDeleteAren't they and each one an individual with it's own little face and character?Tiny treasures.We have some local button makers turning out interesting new buttons too in ceramic and found materials.
ReplyDeleteI like thinking about the original wearers before the buttons came to me. Where did these buttons go and whom did they meet? What happiness and sadness did they witness? They cannot speak to us except through our imagination. I only hope we do them justice.
